I was thrilled to spend some time this summer in Nashville doing a little of this and that: songwriting, speaking at a songwriting conference, doing a couple of house concerts and celebrating a CD release. I love it there, I really do. I can’t get over the luscious green landscape–here’s the view from the arched bridge on the legendary Natchez Trace. It gave me a little vertigo standing up there….but wow!
Over the course of a couple of visits I wrote songs with some crazy talented songwriters like Jeff Pardo, Sarah Hart and the team of Global Genius (Scott Dente and Ken Lewis) Normally in these sessions I’m sitting across from someone with a guitar or a piano, but here’s what it looks like to write a song with a drummer. Ken’s groovy.
I co-wrote a song on my friend Tanya Godsey’s new CD, Telling Time, several months ago and this past weekend got to hear the whole CD at a listening party at Paragon Studios in Franklin, TN. It’s a beautiful space and an even more beautiful record. Here’s us at Paragon….Click on that link above and go hear her new CD. (Hint: “Doesn’t Feel like Home” is the one I wrote with her, but it’s all incredibly good. )
In between all that, of course I ate GOOD in the neighborhood and stuffed myself immensely at places like Cafe Laredo, Mellow Mushroom, Burger Up, and Athens Family Greek Restaurant, which I just discovered and fell madly in love with…..it’s on Franklin Pike near 8th. TO. DIE. FOR.
Also just discovered Sperry’s where we had amazing appetizers and a huge yummy salad bar. Here’s me with my new pal, Kristyn (you may recognize her from the country act SheDaisy. See, that’s Nashville for you….so much talent per capita) My sweet sister, Heidi took this pic. Love the girl time I get with Heidi and her cool friends. :)
I come home from these trips ready to work hard again, blessed to be able to do what I love with people who inspire me.
