I got to spend an evening at a local vineyard owned by the Tamayo family–a winemaker here in the Nor Cal Brentwood area. The main house is an Italian-style villa located off of Hwy 4 at the end of a long tree-lined road surrounded by vineyards. Entering the courtyard, this was our view.
Abe and I were invited by our opthamologist-turned-friend Matthew Bronge. A very hip looking eye-doctor if you ask me. He also makes some mean hors d’oeuvres.
We were given a brief tour of the vineyards, which included a taste of their current cabernet and syrah grapes on the vine (mmmm) and the wine cellar. We learned they name some of their wines after their grandkids! (how cute is that?!) and spent the evening tasting the vineyard’s 9 varietals while noshing on an assortment of appetizers. Our favorite was a 2007 red, “a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.”
One of my highlights was sneaking away from the group and playing this. What a beauty!
But my very favorite moment was sipping wine right at sunset….sigh. Perfect.
Check them out on Facebook, or at their website if you’re interested in attending a tasting. It was the perfect way to spend a summer night.
