I’m partnering with World Vision and planning several acoustic shows around the country to raise money for “Promise Packs,” special backpacks filled with things like school supplies, personal hygiene items and a blanket, distributed to children throughout the heavily impacted regions of Haiti.
An estimated 480,000 people have left the city of Port-au-Prince since the quake struck on Jan. 12. Many are staying with families, and even more in Tent Cities, like the one you see in the picture above….. but the support systems in these outlying communities are being stretched. World Vision’s top humanitarian priorities at this point include the emotional needs of vulnerable children.
Children need to feel safe and loved in the midst of such devastating loss and displacement. Giving a child a backpack of his/her very own filled with useful and fun stuff is a great way to wrap our arms around a boy or girl and say, we love you and have not forgotten about you. The concerts are a great way for us to gather together and share music, and also raise funds toward the purchase of these backpacks.
I’ve been a World Vision Artist Associate for over 7 years, and will work closely with the distribution channels handling these backpacks. We’ve got several shows in the works, in venues ranging from churches to coffeehouses to private homes, and we would love to do more!
If you’d like to host one, or know of a venue that might be willing to host it, please send an e-mail to booking@stacifrenes.com and we’ll talk with you about the details!
